Sadly my mom has gone back to the East coast, and as I folded the clothes this morning I realized it was the first time I had done laundry in 2 weeks. Ugh. I miss you mom. Not only does the woman do laundry and babysit, but she bakes too! She picked out an apple cobbler recipe from my Mark Bittman “How to Cook Everything Vegetarian” book, threw it together in seconds. I didn’t know she was baking until I smelled something like hot apple pie coming from the kitchen.

Happy Birthday to my husband, 36 years young, I love you dahling!
His cake, sick-a-tella ice cream cake, I invented last year composed of every sweet thing he loves… but this year I changed it up a bit. I decided it was time to try making dulce de leche (checking this off my want to try list). I swirled it into the ice cream thinking that seems very snickery to me. It was awesome! BUT! A tad on the sweet side.

Two years ago I started CakeStudent because I needed a hobby and, well, a food blog just sounded like fun. Turns out it wasn’t much fun… my posts were pretty bad and I had zero visitors. After only a few months, I threw in the towel. The next year, when my domain name was set to expire, I logged into google analytics out of sheer curiosity. Low and behold… I had over 5000 page views! I couldn’t believe it. Turns out my Cat in the Hat cake was bringing in some traffic.
