Yogurt Cake and Bringing up Bébé

I am one proud mama, my 3 year old made this cake!

Tea for Three with Yogurt Cake
I am currently enjoying a new book, Bringing up Bébé by Pamela Druckerman. Its unlike other parenting books I have read; an easy read about her very interesting life as an American mommy in France. She compares her American parenting style to that of the French in a humorous and insightful way. I wish I had this book when my boys were infants, they may have better sleeping habits now.

UPDATE – Got a little farther on this book, I’m quite depressed by it all.. I feel like I’m doing everything wrong! Are the French really such wonderful parents? Do all their babies sleep through the night? Sigh.

ANOTHER UPDATE – My thoughts on a similar book with another great French baking recipe (Spice Bread).

Spaetzle with Jarlsberg Mornay Sauce

Jarlsberg Mornay Cheese Sauce

5 Years ago, my husband and I were fa-Fa-FA-FREEZING our bums off on the top of the Schilthorn mountain in Switzerland. It was quite possibly the coldest I had ever been, and I know cold… I grew up in Buffalo. We were a bit under dressed for the experience, and I remember the odd sensation of bending my frozen hair.

The Cat’s Hat Bread

We have a nice collection of Dr. Seuss books, the latest addition being The Sleep Book. My 3 year old was giving us some terrible tantrums when it came time for lights out.. so my genius husband ordered this from amazon. Let me tell you, this book is magical. My son is in bed, lights out, at 8pm every night this week. Why? Because he wants his biggel ball to plop into the cup of the Audio-o-Telly-o-Tally-o Count machine, you know, the one that counts how many people fall asleep each night. LOVE IT. Thank you Dr. Seuss!

Well, I felt it was time to make some more bread art, and since I am reading Dr. Seuss every day, naturally the first thing that came to mind was the red and white hat.

Slice Loaf of The Cats Hat Bread

When this bread finished baking, the sun had already set, which makes for poor photography. Sooooo, we went ahead and helped ourselves and ate more than half the loaf. Nothing beats fresh bread. (To make sure it stays fresh and soft, seal it in a ziploc bag.) The next morning, I got out the camera and took photos of what I had left. Unfortunately, I think we ate the good looking half. These pieces seemed more distorted, probably due to the uneven cocoa dough laid on top of the hat.

Super Bowl Turkey Chili

Turkey Chili

We actually do not have cable t.v., most people find that shocking, but these days with netflix and hulu… its really not all that necessary. Besides, with 2 little kids in the house the only thing I’m turning the tube on for these days is to watch Thomas the Train for the 1 billionth time. I can sing the theme song for Thomas, Word World and Diego, but I haven’t a clue what music is hot now a days. In the car its either no radio and having a conversation with my son about traffic signs and super fast race cars that we see passing us, or NPR while the kids are napping.
