To welcome my husband home from a business trip, I made a yummy banana chocolate cake. In March, banana’s are in season, and in this house… chocolate is always in season. I tested out some new recipes and slightly tweaked them according to user reviews and to accommodate what I had on hand. Of course the little guy wanted to help out so he was in charge of the mixing, scooping, and also the chopping (a.k.a “hammering”) of the walnuts.

Fun Shaped Calzones
Motivated by my recent puff pastry fish dinner project, I thought I could do the same type of thing with calzones. I made my own pizza dough with a bread machine, then let it set in the fridge overnight. The next day I put a few calzones together trying different techniques: using large cookie cutters, cutting with a knife, and molding by hand.

Little Lamb Cake
This adorable lamb cake is perfect for birthdays or Easter or baby showers.
Happy 1st Birthday to my beautiful niece, Sarah! She is crazy in love with her lamb dolls so my mom (aka grandma) did not disappoint when she made this cake for the special occasion. The cake base was for all the guests, and the little lamb sitting on top was specially made with the intention of it getting picked up and hugged and eaten, which it was! Sarah’s fingers, hands, face, and well… Sarah was completely covered in frosting and cake within minutes.
I asked my mom to take some photos of the cake building process so I could share with our more ambitious Cake Student visitors the secrets to assembling such a cake. So without further ado…
