I made this recipe last year and they tasted great. The secret, I found, roll them evenly and not too thin. Also, separate dough into chunks, work with one chunk at a time so they don’t get re-rolled too much.

Pretzel Log Cabin

Miniature log cabin of pretzels and shredded wheat cerealMy mother is kind of a recipe hoarder. From cookbooks, to handwritten recipes on 3×5 cards, scribbled notes on scraps of paper, printouts from the internet, to clipped magazine and newspaper recipes.

She sent me a clipping from the Buffalo News that was so faded I could hardly read the print. On it, I could make out a very cute log cabin made from pretzels. The date, December 1991. She thought it would be a fun project for me and my son (she is thoughtful like that). So, we gave it a shot.

If this little Santa Claus doesn’t make you jolly… I don’t know what will! What a fun way to cheer up the dessert table. Just place santa next to your holiday cookie platter, or bowl of punch, or plate of fudge and wait for all the ho ho ho’s coming from your guests! The best thing is, this jolly old elf can be made with all your leftover fondant.
